The long distance calling code is essential to make a direct international phone call from one country to another. Four things compose the number you dial and the dial sequence you need to fallow is: first the country you are calling from, second the country you call, third the area code of the person who live in that country and finally the phone number you are calling.

1-The country you are calling from is define by the term International Direct Dialing Number or IDD. If you live in Canada or US the number is 011, for France is00, 40, 50, 70 or 90 ... beware that few countries have different numbers depending on the provider and IDD can change too.

2-The country you are calling have a Country Code and it can be the same for more than one country like Canada and US who is the 1. The country is the second number you dial.

3-The country you are calling have city and area code, so it’s important to know those number to deliver the call. Those numbers change frequently and every country growth so new codes are add too. Some countries are too small to have them too. To obtain those codes, you can go on-line or you can call your phone operator, or a relative to you.

4-Finally you dial the phone number you want to contact.

When you call inside a country, you can use the National Direct Dialing or NDD (within that country from one city to another). The rule is simple: you begin the sequence with the IDD or the NDD not both in the same time. You call international= IDD, you call National=NDD. After enter the city/area code and finally the phone number.
