After you know a couple of phone provider, you can begin to compare local long distance plan and find a price corresponding to your needs. In Canada for unlimited local calls price average is 20$ to 30$. You may have to give a security deposit (around 200$) if your credit cote is bad or if you didn’t built it. People coming from outside of Canada or people who never have a credit card...may have to show that they will pay the monthly bill. This deposit will be refund after one year. Long Distance:According to me it’s harder to find a long distance provider because you have more choice and more plan. It’s important to define your need. For me the best choice is my VOIP phone that give me free unlimited long distance call for the same price (local and long distance unlimited for 33$/month+tx) and with that I get all phone features that provider can offer (15differents features), a free picture frame, a free phone, online account, the traditional phone access and an online access to see and heard your voice and video mail, free international long distance call, ..., it the best for me because I do long distance call only from home, I don’t have the same need each month and I don’t have to pay an extra for long distance service. My Father and law prefer Distributel because he does long distance from home cell phone or any phone depends where he is (he move a lot because he is retire and I’m working at the same place every day) and Distributel is a dial around service( you need to dial a specific number if you do not want to be bill by your local provider). It’s more expensive at the end because he need a local provider (close to 25$/month) and the unlimited Distributel plan at 17.95$/month +taxes, but he prefer to pay more each month and use it more to make it profitable. I prefer to use only what I need (or doing call from home only) and pay an extra for one month because I make a call on my cell phone. A local long distance plan can be perfect for someone and not so good for you, so I suggest you to ask search and compare.
